Well, over the years I’ve seen plenty of people put up blogs about their time in whichever country they happen to be, and thought “that seems like a good idea!” then been too lazy to ever follow through on that thought. However, inspired by the blogs of friends I have decided it’s about time to get involved myself, lest alcohol and age will claim all of the memories I make out in this weird and wonderful country! Feel free to ignore, harass, laugh at and comment on anything you see in this blog.

I try to get something down every week or so, or at least every time something interesting happens. I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I enjoy writing it!

Hi Greg! I just clicked to follow your blog, after you commented on mine. My nephew is also currently in China, teaching. His name is Jamie. I’m sure, in a country of 12 gazillion people, that you two are already great friends …

Oh that’s great! How is he liking it out here? It can be a bit of a roller coaster journey. Which part of China is he in?
It is a very small world out here. Coincidences really do happen all the time, so you’d be surprised. Maybe I’ll bump into him one of these days.
You’ve been Freshly Pressed thrice (love that word)? Wow. Once would do for me!
Thanks for following my blog, I hope you enjoy my writing as much as I do yours.

He’s only been there a few weeks. He is in a training course before he is assigned to wherever he will end up. And you’re right. It is a small world in some ways!

I’m looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

Hi Greg, I’m writing a blog about my experience returning to the U.S. from China and I am talking about the I.V. phenomena this week, but I can’t locate a pic of that particular technique. Do you mind if I link back to your blog for your pic of I.V. stations? My blog is http://www.riffingonreality.wordpress.com.

Ni hao Greg – I just stumbled across your blog when I read a comment you made on a Freshly Pressed blog post. I am also South African – but of an older generation than you I am sure – and I have lived in China (BJ) for the past four years (but first started coming to the country from the UK some twenty years ago).
It is great that you are blogging from China, because in the rest of the world there is huge ignorance and misunderstanding about this amazing, fascinating, irritating, extraordinary country and its people and anthing that can help to dispel it has to be a good thing.

      Hi Herschelian,

Thanks for dropping by! Always nice to hear from a fellow China hand.
It’s a fun place to be, though (as I’m sure you’re well aware by now) sometimes it can be quite an alienating experience.

      Take care,
